It was a beautiful drive out to Chickaloon tonight and a very interesting presentation by Usibelli about Wishbone Hill mine.  Spokeswoman Lorali Carter and Project Manager Rob Brown gave a general overview of the project that could open as early as 2012. Lorali was smart and focused the largest chunk of her PowerPoint on the company itself so we connect with the company on a more human level.  It was hard not to feel positively toward this truly feel-good story.  This... This White House has “vilified industries,” complains the Chamber of Commerce. America is burdened with “an anti-business president,” moans The Weekly Standard. Would that all presidents were this anti-business: according to the St. Louis... Read more...

I ran into this YouTube video this morning... talk about a sobering Sunday topic.  Watch it, go to TakePart.com/zero and see what they have to say, then sign the petition if it fits into your beliefs:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=486MZC8596g... Read more...

I realize that Chuck Heath is no longer employed as an educator, but how could he have forgotten the ethics of the profession? His speech (diatribe?) at Colony High School crossed boundaries that would be obvious even to a novice educator. Using an invitation to a graduation ceremony as an opportunity to spew hate is inexcusable. He would not want an educator to speak similarly to his grandchildren. How disappointing.... Read more...
I am increasingly concerned that, because we lack a fiscal plan, the Governor ends up making all the decisions about the capital budget in our state. I understand that legislators want to serve their constituents, but now the only person to determine which projects are most valuable to our state is the Governor. It was the same with Sarah...she vetoed all kinds of items with no real rhyme or reason that could be discerned. Perhaps it is time for the legislative and executive branches to work ... Read more...
The fight seems to be on again for the public option for universal health insurance.  It was reported in the Huffington Post that Senator Reid is now willing to back a letter signed by 19 other senators. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/19/reid-will-push-for-public_n_469483.html) Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced on Friday afternoon that he would work with other Democ... The clever Ringmaster of the Flea Circus lets the audience spend just enough time picking fleas off each others backs while the Ringmaster's accomplices steal them blind.  So it is in today's politics.  A case in point... Frank Rich had an insightful column in the New York Times on Sunday.  While we are mesmerized by minutiae, a genuine revolt is gain... Read more...
